Why ceramic

The tint you can feel on a Florida afternoon

Most of the heat that comes through your windows is infrared light you can't see. Cheap dyed tint makes the glass darker, but it barely touches that heat. Ceramic film uses tiny ceramic particles that reject infrared, so the cabin stays cooler and your A/C catches up faster, even at a lighter shade.

It also blocks 99% of UV rays, the ones that crack dashboards, fade leather and burn the arm you rest by the window. And because ceramic has no metal in it, your phone, GPS, keyless entry and toll transponder all work like normal.

That's why we put ceramic on almost every car we tint. It costs a little more up front and it's the last tint you'll buy for that car.

How much does window tint cost in Groveland?

Our ceramic tint for a sedan's four door windows and rear glass is $379, with a lifetime warranty on the film. A few things change the price on other vehicles:

  • How much glass there is. SUVs, trucks with rear sliders and minivans have more windows to cover.
  • The rear window. Steep, curved back glass (Corvettes, Model 3s, coupes) takes more time to shrink and fit.
  • Old tint. Purple, bubbling film has to come off first, adhesive and all.
  • Add-ons. A windshield sun strip or a sunroof.

Text us your year, make and model and you'll get a firm number before you come in.

Florida window tint law, in plain English

Florida measures tint by how much light gets through (VLT), and the limits depend on your vehicle type:

  • Cars (sedans and coupes): front side windows above 28%, back side and rear windows above 15%.
  • SUVs, trucks and vans: front side windows above 28%, back side and rear windows above 6%.
  • Windshield: non-reflective tint above the AS-1 line only.
  • Reflectivity: front sides no more than 25% reflective, rear sides no more than 35%.

Every shade we install keeps you inside those numbers. If you have a medical exemption, bring the paperwork and we'll go over what it allows.

Which tint shade should you choose?

Darker isn't always cooler. With ceramic film, a medium shade can reject more heat than a cheap dark one. Here's how most of our customers decide:

  • Lighter on the front, darker in the back is the most popular setup. You keep good visibility at night and still get privacy for passengers and cargo.
  • Trucks and SUVs can go much darker in the back (down to 6%), which is great for kids, pets and tools.
  • Night driving on unlit roads toward the Green Swamp or SR-19? Stay a little lighter up front.

We'll hold real samples up to your glass so you can see the difference before we cut anything.

Ceramic vs. carbon vs. dyed tint

Dyed film is the cheapest. It darkens the glass but fades to purple and bubbles in Florida sun. Carbon film holds its color and rejects some heat. Ceramic rejects the most infrared heat, won't fade and won't interfere with electronics. For Central Florida, ceramic is the one that's worth paying for once.

Clean indoor install bay at Excel in Groveland, FL

How we install your tint

Tint only looks as good as the install, so we do it the slow way:

  • Indoors. Wind and dust are what cause specks under film, so every car is tinted inside our shop, never in a parking lot.
  • Deep-cleaned glass. Each window is scrubbed and the edges and seals are cleaned, so nothing gets trapped.
  • Heat-formed rear glass. The back window is shaped to the curve so it goes on in one piece, with no strips or seams.
  • Tight edges. Film is trimmed close to the edge so it looks factory.
  • Final check. Felix looks over every window in good light before you get your keys.

Aftercare: the first few days

Keep the windows rolled up for 3 to 5 days while the film cures. A little haze or a few water pockets in the first week is normal and disappears in the Florida sun. Wait a week before cleaning the inside of the glass, then use a soft microfiber and an ammonia-free cleaner. If something doesn't settle, bring it back. We'll make it right.

Tesla Model 3 at Excel after paint protection film and tint

Tesla window tint

We tint a lot of Teslas, including the big rear glass on the Model 3 and Model Y. Ceramic tint is the right call on a Tesla: there's no metal to interfere with the phone key or the antennas, and it makes a big difference under that glass roof. Ask about tinting the roof too.

Window tint near Clermont, Minneola and Mascotte

Most of our tint customers come from Groveland, Clermont, Minneola and Mascotte, with plenty from Winter Garden and Howey-in-the-Hills. Most cars are done the same day, so it's one drop-off and one pickup.

Black Ferrari with tinted windows at Excel
How much is window tint at Excel?
Ceramic tint on a sedan's four door windows and rear window is $379 with a lifetime warranty on the film. SUVs, trucks and vans are quoted by text.
How long does it take to tint a car?
Most cars take a few hours. Trucks, SUVs and cars with old tint to remove can take longer. We'll give you a pickup time at drop-off.
How dark can I legally tint in Florida?
Front side windows must let in more than 28% of light. Back side and rear windows must let in more than 15% on cars and more than 6% on SUVs, trucks and vans. Windshield tint is allowed above the AS-1 line only.
Does ceramic tint really make a difference?
Yes. Ceramic film rejects infrared heat, the part of sunlight you feel on your skin, so the cabin stays noticeably cooler than with dyed film at the same shade.
Will tint affect my phone or GPS?
Not with ceramic. It has no metal in it, so phones, GPS, keyless entry and toll transponders work normally.
When can I roll my windows down?
Wait 3 to 5 days so the film can cure. Light haze or small water pockets in the first week are normal and clear up on their own.
Can you remove my old tint?
Yes. Old, purple or bubbling film has to come off, adhesive and all, before new tint goes on. Mention it when you text for a quote.
What does the lifetime warranty cover?
The film is warranted against bubbling, peeling, cracking and fading for as long as you own the car. If anything goes wrong, bring it back.
